It’s official! We FINALLY finished paying Sallie Mae back! This is my anthem for the MONTH!
I can’t believe it. March 2016: Sallie Mae got her eviction letter from the Kasprzak household.
2016 marks 10 years since I graduated from Texas A&M (whoop!!) and I’ve had this monkey on my back for way too long. We’ve pushed and pushed and doubled up payments, saved up and made bigger payments, and today… it’s finally OVER.
Josh and I started the Dave Ramsey plan a few years ago and put my loans in our “debt snowball” WAY at the end of the line. We never thought we’d get there. We’d fall off the wagon, then pick ourselves back up a few months later.
I’m sure a lot of people are wondering why I’d share this information. Financial stuff is personal, right? Right! It is! But so many people are in the same boat. So to those people, I say to you: don’t give up! It doesn’t matter if you’re $26,000 in debt, $80,000 or $200,000. There’s always a way out. You just have to bite the bullet and do it $1 at a time.
We didn’t get to do a lot of stuff that we wanted to in the early days. We have multiple businesses, worked side jobs, cut coupons and wrote a budget every month (SERIOUSLY, every month). It’s hard, but we did it. And we aren’t stopping now.
Now we have the opportunity to put money towards Kaleb’s college so he never has student loans and towards our own retirement so we can plan for the future.
